About me

My varied and lengthy career in mental health and critical care nursing has provided me with valuable insight into the workforce of mental health nursing. I am a strong advocate for wellbeing in the workplace and the provision for a safe space for people to work and develop their knowledge and skills. I am a life long learner and after completing my Masters in Mental Health Nursing I commenced and am currently undertaking a PhD, reseraching the effects of trauma caused by compulsory treatment. I have a strong interest in adult community areas particularly Emergency Psychiatry.

My experience

I have had an extensive career spanning over two decades in Emergency and ICU nursing, branching into mental health nursing over the last 10 years, working as a RPN on adult inpatient settings, moving into Older adult community teams, then to Emergency psychiatry such as CATT/EPS/PACER. Throughout my career I have had a variety of experience in supervising clinicians/nurses at varying levels from undergraduate students to post graduate/masters clinicians.

My current role/work

Service Improvement Coordinator - Quality and Governance - Alfred Mental Health and Addiction.
Coordinator of the Alfred Mental Health and Addiction Supervision Database.

My training

Certificate IV in Health (Nursing) - Division 2 EN
Bachelor of Nursing RN
Post Graduate Diploma in Nursing Practice (Emergency Care)
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
Masters in Mental Health Nursing (inclusive of post grad)

My approach to supervision

I believe my experience and skills has developed effective understanding of my own reflection process. This allows me to be able to support colleagues to understand their own abilities in reflecting on clinical situations. I have the ability to be able to identify counter transference and support people to balance and normalize the effects through the supervision process.
