About me

My name is Charlie, I am 34 and live in Melbourne. I am a Registered Nurse working in youth mental health. I trained as a Mental Health Nurse in the UK, where I then obtained 8 years experience in adult, youth and child mental health.

I am open minded, kind, friendly and approachable, and am keen to link up with fellow health colleagues who may be seeking clinical supervision from an experienced clinician from outside of their current workplace.

My experience

I have nearly 10 years experience working as a mental health nurse, both in the UK and now continuing my career in Australia.

Before moving to Australia in November 2023, I worked as a Team Lead in a CAMHS Crisis Team. I had both a clinical and managerial role, supporting young people and their families through periods of mental health crisis. We would support them to remain in the community and avoid inpatient admission, where safe to do so. I was also responsible for access assessments of those who were at risk of admission, to support the MDT in planning ongoing care. I also held a managerial role, whereby I supported a small team with caseload management, supervision, rostering and clinical guidance.
The main presentations I worked with were: depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, ASD, ADHD, learning difficulties, mania, psychosis and childhood trauma.
Before my Team Lead role within this team, I worked for 3 years as a Grade 3 Mental Health Clinician.
In this role I worked with patients aged 12-18.

In 2019 I worked for a CAMHS Assertive Outreach Team for one year. Within this team I worked as a case manager, supporting young people who found it difficult to engage with mainstream mental health services due to psychosocial, environmental and systemic difficulties.
The main presentations I worked with in this role were: depression, anxiety, social isolation, drug and alcohol use, childhood trauma, BPD, disengagement, systemic issues and psychosis.
Within this role I worked with people aged 14-15.

My first role as a newly qualified nurse was in an Adult Inpatient Unit, working solely with working age females. My role was to support them during their acute phase of illness, when it was not safe to support them in the community. I supported with medication management, containment, psychoeducation and recovery and wellness planning. I worked within an MDT alongside Psychiatrists, Registrars, OT's, Social Workers, Support Workers and Clerical staff.
The main presentations I worked with were: BPD, Schizoaffective Disorder, BPAD, depression, anxiety, acute drug use, suicidal ideation and self-harm.
In this role I worked with females aged 18+.

My current role/work

At present I am working within a Hospital at Home team, supporting young people and their families with receiving mental health support in the community, as an alternative to inpatient care.

I will soon be leaving this role and starting a new position as a Senior Clinician in a Single Point of Access team. I will be working with young people experiencing mental health crisis, offering assessment and care planning for the next steps in their mental health journey. This may vary from inpatient admission to referrals on to Primary and Tertiary services.

My approach to supervision

I will be led by you. This space is for you and somewhere which I want you to be able to feel safe and contained. I want it to be useful and I want you to be able to be confident in being able to bring difficult situations and/or topics to the space and leave feeling that you have been heard, and where possible these issues have been resolved.

I am open to ideas and am eager to hear what works for you. Everybody has their own learning styles and I can adapt and change to whatever will work best for you.
